Crash Boat Beach takes its name from the Army's WWII-era Crash Rescue Boat Squadron, which docked here to retrieve downed aircraft near the old Ramey Air Force Base. What remains of the pier is now more photographed than used functionally: fishing boats in island colors tie up alongside it, and locals fish and swim off the old pilings. Storm damage is an ongoing reality here; sections of the historic pier have fallen into the sea during past hurricanes, so its exact shape shifts year to year.

Late afternoon into sunset, when the boats and pier catch the best light.

Calm cove, generally safe for swimming. Keep clear of the pier pilings when boat traffic is active, and check on storm damage to the pier structure before climbing on it.
